"Case No. 47. This individual was employed in larch l944, as
Un-Anerican Activities Comnittee advised on August 18, l947, that.
an adritted former Commnist Party membor was formerly associated with
this individual in Communist activities in Washington, D. C. This
indivilual's husbarl admittel having been a member of the Communist
Party. The husband nor has a highly ccnfidential position with the.
associated with a er'oup of knomn Communists..
the Division of Internal Security.".
"A report dated July 16, l947, states that in 194l a Senate
investigating comnittee had found that both this individual and
her husband were members of the Communist Party. A report dated.
September 15, l947, by a Government investigative agency, advised
that a reliable informant reported this individual as a Communist,
and that she has been recently contacting a member of the Soviet
espionage ring. This individual is stili in a highly paid job in
the State Department."
Possible Identification.
A review of the Eureau's files indicates this individual is
anparently identical with Dr. Esther Caukin Brunauer. The Burea's records
reflect that a loyalty investigation was conducted on this individual in l948.
According to information developel during the course of this
investigation, Dr. Brunauer was never known to be a member of the
Comnunist Party.
