Mr. Donald L. Kicholaon, (former t), Chief of the wa
Security Divielon, State Department, called thie morning and | ooty
stated thet his Division is to be investigated by the Senators now serving
on the Senate Subcommittee hearing the McCarthy charges. --The investigation
grew out of a statement made by Senator Brewster of Maine on the Floor when
Aiecussine the activities of the investigative group in the State Department.
Senate? ‘undt of South Dakota stated that recent State Department activities
(he referred to the alleged investigation of Mr. Kenseyveravfors of "Kewsyeek"
by State Department investigator), warranted an investigation of their activities
and thet he, Mundt, intended to see that it was done. —
Nicholson advised that although no one is in his office now maki
the check, he expects them soon.

position, called Mr. Temm of the Bureau and stated that he was endeavoring to
obtain someone to head-up the Special Agent Section of the State Departaent. |He
stated that the name of former Specie? Agent Donald L. Bicholeon had been given
to him and that before he contacted Nicholson, he wanted to check with the Bureau
to determine whether Ficholson's record with the Bureau wae good. Mr. Peurifoy
was subsequently informed by Mr. Tanz of the dates of Hicholaon's service with)
the Bureau and that he resigned of bis wo volition without prejudice and that
