M, Ladd if wo st t a SUBJECT: DEBS Nichola —Kigel While tolking with Peyon Ford on other matters, Ré wr exhibited to Mr. Nichols and Mr. Lodd a letter addressed to Tele, Room ___ the Attorney General from Senator Tydings, which dealt wi wonse making ava dable by the President to the Tydings' Commit .the files of the State Department. u Senator Tydings was requesting assurance fro Attorney General that all loyalty reports on those &1 ose iti) had been sent by the FEI to the State Department in order thé the Committee might be assured thot they were obtaining not information from the State Department but all that which the FRI had furnished to the State Department. Mr. Ford wanted the Bureau to take this letter and to suggest how tt might be answered. Y - We pointed out to Mr. Ford that under the provisions set up in the Loyalty Program, the Bureq does not send reports direct to the employing agency but rather sendg all coptes to the Civil Service Commission, who inturn transmit the reports to the oppropriate employing agency; that, therefore, all the Bureau could say was thet the loyalty reports had been sent to the Ctuitl Service Commission. The Bureau obviously could not cetify that the Commission had sent them all to the State Department.
