In view of Genrtor McCarthy's public charge in a
letter which he sent to President Truman that the Stete
bercrtuent pergonnel files in the so-called 81 cases which
were reviewed by the Tydings Committee were deliberetely
strip, ed of derogatory date in 1946, I request that the
Burezu incedietely cause an examinction of these 81 files.
to he made and rexort to me whether or_not it finds any _
matericl furnishes by the Burean_to be nissing g therefrom,
and wieth=r the Department is in possession of any infor-
mation indtesting thot Etete Tensrtrent sersonnel files were
celiberetecly strirvved of derogatory data et any time.
