The Wisconsin Senator aceused Jes- sup and others of Communist sympathies. When some fellow Senators accused him of smearing and called him “a character assas- sin,” McCarthy offered to let a “cammittee headed by a good Democrat” decide whether his Br The Associated Press charges are justified.
