I am submitting herewlth as a unit the cases of Chew Sih Hong
and Dr. Kung Chuan Chi, employees of the Office of War Information.
These cases are being sutmitted together because both individuals
are serving in the same section, and it appears that: ‘ir. Hong was
employed at the recommendation of Dr. thi who in turn was employed by
Mr. Owen Lattimore, Director of Pacific Operations of the Cffice of
War Information.
The case of ‘fr. Hong was previously before the Commission and
analyses of the facte in hia case were furnished by the undersigned
Mr. Cannon. both took the position that Hong's connections
the Chines Laundry Alliance, reputed to Be an "orgaization
wreitieted h the Communist Party, and fté China Daily News, paid
to be a sublication by and for Chinese Cammunists, eant-trhr references
and associations, were such as to warrant a finding of ineligibility. { >

that Mr. Hong's services were terminated at the close of business on
Novexber 15, 1942 as reported in the letter from Mr. Elmer Davis of

the letter of November 30, 1942 from the Office of War Information to
the effect that Hong had beon terminated at the close of business
November 15, 1942 was somewhat in error because Mr. Hong had been
separated from the New York office of the Office of War Information
on November 15, 1942 for duty with the Army and that when he returned
