BASIS FOR INVESTIGATION wN
An FBI informant of known reliability was contacted by the FBI during
course of a previous security investijation conducted in June 19h2. At
this time he furnished a list containing names of persons on active indices
or mailing list of United American Spanish Aid Committce. List contained
nance Rw. (Croup cited by Attorney General.)
Previous FBI investicpations indicate that United American Spanish
Aid Comittee was organized by Communist Party and completely controlled
by it.
An FBI agent who joined the Communist Party at the request of the je
Bureau in 1937 and was expelled from the Communist Party in 1948 and whose
record as an informant was one of camplcte reliability, atated that Siusimie
was a member of the Communist Party and personally known to him as such.
The same informant advised that Suenhminih wife, Sqgjipelulitie, had
been a member of the Commmist Party both before and after her marriage to
Quuninia. She formerly lived with RaupeR@Rewt@hbeNNm and the wife of
Bernard Addes. They have maintained close association with SRE, an
admitted Commmist Party member.
According to this informant Muaumgm claimed to have been in the
Communist Party in Europe and said his father had been a Trotskyite.
@eaeb came to a lot of "open unit" meetings and to all recruiting
meetings of the Commmist Party from 1938 to sometime in 19)2. This
informant said he had had no contact with @gmimmlit since 1912, stating
further that @igilit.was horrified at the Russo-Cerman alliance in 1939. ne
Another reliable FBI informant recalled SMM as a menber of the
Communist Party in the late 1930s.
His wife, SURRpem, was formerly secretary to QR of
Workers Alliance. His wife, Mimepg@mliggm, was member of and active in
Young Communist League before and a while after she became a Communist
Party member.
A reliable informant said Bernard Addes and his wife were associates
of Otay in the late 1930's and these people were both members of the Communist
Party and have been ovor a long period. Mrs. Addes and Mrs. @@pmG@@ were long
time friends. Mr. Addes ran for Governor of Maryland about 193), on Communist
Party ticket. Recently named in paper and by radio commentators as well-
known Communists who contributed $5,000 to the Presidential C
Fund of Wallace (Verified thr campaign records in office of Clerk
of Senate — contributed 2/8/)8). The same informant said that when lirs.
are was secretary to Ghee she was a Commnist Party member and it
was strongly believed that @iseumy was aleo a member but his membership
