FBI Report 6/28/18 Richmond, Virgin Special Agent Claude E. Willis, Jrei
ith confidential informant who is believed reliable, furnished
signed statement June 24, 1948, and advised that she 1s willing totecstify
before Loyalty Board provided her identity in not revealed to the enplayec.
tas I remomber Mr. 4M when he lived in the @immeme Apartment,
@@ER New Hampshire Avarus, Ne We, Washington, ». Ce, in about 1939
and 1940, I would consider his actions to indicate that he was
disloyal to the United States Government. Though about 8 years
have elapsed since my contact with Mr. GRRmmmM, and ny conception
of the term 'Coummist! and 'fellow traveler' may have been colored
by present meanings of those terms, I feel that Mr. @UBQM perhaps
was and may be a Commmist or follow traveler. By 'Camumist! I
mean ‘A group or groups to overthrow our government or cause dissention
or dissatisfaction with our way of Government or anyone who is loyal
to the Russian Government.' By 'fellow traveler! I mean 'A coverup
group for the Commmists who do their dirty worke’ By ‘dirty work!
I mean 'To pass out their literature or make contacts for them.'
"During the time I saw ty. QU I observed him passing out literature
in tho lebby of the apartment for the QNAQMMRS Group, which at that
time I considered to be a group which were disloyal to the United States.
I received ane copy of these pamphlets. I cannot recall that it
said anything of a disloyal nature however. I also recall that
Mr. put this literature under the doors of the ppartmecnis
the upper floors. I believe Mr. AUN was a member of the
digiTRGMMGEA Organization, because he tried to sell the principals
of the organization to two of the elevator operators which he
intimated to be operators as being better than our American way.
He frequently talked about their low pay and long working hours. Ha
seamed to me to be a fanatic on anything pertaining to labor, to
unions, to conditions under which Americans work, and th: pay scalese
This to me was an indication that Mr. GURNEE might bo a Conmmist,
"Another reason which makes me think that he might be a Commamist is
that he gave out literature which I heard supported the Spanish
Lleyalists, which group I recall was supported by the Commmists of
Russia at that timee I know that Mr. SRG was receiving mil
from Spain because
