BASIS FOR INVESTIGATION

course of a previous security investigation “conducted in June 1942. at
this time he furnished a list containing names of porsons on active indices
or mail list of United American Spanish Aid Committce. List contained
name (Group cited by Attorney General.)
Previous FBI investigations indicate that United American Spanish
Aid Committee was organized by Commmist Party and completely controlled
by it.
An FsI agent who joined the Commmnist Party at the request of the
Bureau in 1937 and was oxpelled from the Commmist Party in 1948 and whose
record as an informant was one of complcte reliability, stated that Situumiy
was a momer of the Commmist Party and personally knowm to him as such.
The same informant advised that ee wife, BAe, bad
. deen a member of the Coummist Party both before and after her marriage to
Bearers She formerly lived with Saueipeatgpenems and the wife of
admitted Comounist Party member.
According to this informant MMBMBM=RE claimed to have been. in the
Conmmunist Party in Europe and said his father had been a Trotskyite.
OM came to a lot of “open unit” meetings and to all recruiting
meetings of the Communist Party from 1938 to sometime in 19)2. This
informant gaid be had had no contact with @IMMMM since 19),2, stating
further that Qi was horrified st the Russo-German alliance in 1939.
Another reliable FSI informant recalled SM as a member of the
Communist Party in the late 1930s.
His wife, SUMQUMiuemme, was formerly secretary to SU of
Workers Alliance. His wife, Siagmlipedngs, was member of amd active in
Young Commnist League before and a while after sho became a Commnist ~~

A -reliable—informant seid Bernard _Addes_and_his_wife_were—aseoc
of @GRutemh in the late 1930's and these people were both mambers of the “Commmnist
Party and have been over a long period. Mrs. Addes and Mrs. @Mpael were long
time friends. Mr. Addes ran for Gevernor of Maryland about 193) on Communist
Party ticket. Reccntly named in paper and by radio commentators as well-
known Communiste who contributed $5,000 to the Presidential Campaign
Fund of Wallace (Verified thr campaign records in office of Clerk
of Senate — contributed 2/8/18). The same informant said that when irs.
Quam was secretary to O0Rlem she was a Communist Party monber and it
was
waa never definitely established by informant. QR) however was a Commnnist
aympathiser and propagated Communist principles and became quite friendly
