| i By letter dated 10-13-64, Senator Kennedy advised he is cur’r¢gntly
putting together a short book of recollections about his father, Joseph P. Kennedy.
It is to be composed of personal essays written by those who are the senior Kennedy's
closest friends, and the Director is requested to write an account of this nature. Mr.
Hoover has indicated he would be agreeable to providing Senator Kennedy with such an
article.
INFORMATION IN BUFILES:
> Joseph P. Kennedy is on the Special Correspondents' List and is known
to the Director on a first-name basis. On numerous occasions, he has expressed a ,
great admiration for Mr. Hoover and the work of the FBI. He was a Special Service
Contact of the Boston Office from 1943 until 1954, following which he was an SAC
Contact of that Division.

The FBI has never conducted a complete investigation of Mr. Kennedy;'
however, a limited inquiry was made in May, 1951, at the request of the Department.
This concerned an allegation that Mr. Kennedy, then owner of the Merchandise Mart
Ain Chicago, had given $100, 000 for the removal of Government offices ffom that
building, No specific facts were developed and the inquiry was closed on 6-7-51.

Edward M. Kennedy défeated Republitaf candidate George C. Lodge
in an election held on 11-6-62. The,9-%8-62, issue of "Time" magazine contained an
article which reflected Senator Kenriédy’ obtained a Bachelor. of Arts Degree in 1956 from
Haivard. After being turned down by the Harvard Law Sch OL, Re "entelrdd the 1
University of Virginia Law School, earning a Bachelor of Laws Degree in 1959. The
