Smith to Wannall memo 10/1/74, captioned as above, reported that Mr. James Wilderotter, Associate Deputy Attorney General, would recontact the Attorney General concerning a proposal that we attempt once again to brief Senators Kennedy, Muskie and Ervin, without members of their staff present, concerning electronic surveillances. This briefing would be completely candid, with nothing held back if the Senators agree not to make a record of or publicize what they are told or shown. dy bain 6: aed A. | On 10/3/74 Mr. Wilderotter advised that he has contacted the Attorney General, who has approved making another effort to conduct the briefing. He said also that Assistant Attorney General Vincent Rakestraw has obtained clearance for the briefing from Senator James O. Eastland.
