Judge urges
understanding
by press, law
CHICAGO (AP) — A
Washington State Supreme
Court justice says journal-
fism and law professors must
share the responsibility for
fair trials and a free press in
America,
Justice Robert C. Finley
told a panel of the Associa-
tion of American Law
Schools’ annual meeting
Monday night, “The mon-
key’s on everybody’s back.”
“The news media could
use some in-depth informa-
nt.
. tion and understanding” in
the nature of the judicial
process, Finley said.
But he noted, “Accuracy
and quality of news report-
ing- concerning the courts
and the administration of
justice has ‘been substantial-
jy improved.”

groups must be improved.

should be treated as such.’
