GREENBERG. GIOE's association with SIDNEY KORSHAK and his
brother, BERNIE KORSHAK, was still going strong in 1950 at a
time when perhaps ten thousand Chicago cavernes cigar stores,
newsstands, etc., were reportedly bookie aQot . According to
Lait and Mortimer's “Chicago Confidential,” one king-sized
gambling joint connected by direct wire to central synd_cate
headcuarters was located at 217 North Clark Street under ow.er-
ship of TONY ACCARDO and MEL CLARK. They e21id CuARK, however,
was told to “take a walk" and BERNIE KORSHAK took over his
interest as a front for GIOE.
In 1958 an informant of the Lvs Angeles Office indicate
that SIDNEY KORSHAK had' met with Warden WOOLARD, then editor of
the"Los Angeles Examiner," and L. D. HOTCHKISS, the managing
editor of the "Los Angeles Times" at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, ~
Beverly Hills, California, at which time discussions were entered
into which allegedly concerned the political future of
Congressman RICHARD RICHARDS of California.
