Poo y¥ \ I called Mr. Nathan in connection vith the stories in the press concerning the $t. eee aed ee sener ea, in which statements are made to the effect THEE “Assistant Director Herold Nathan gave the massacre story a left-hand confirmation", and asked just what he had said to the newspapers about this. Mr. Nathan stuted that the inquiries from the press came immediately efter the breek and that he, Nathan, had advised that "if he had ever mac any such confession, I know nothing about it". I advised that the Director had issued a denial that ary such statement was given and wants to emphasize that denial end the fact thet absolutely nothin, more should be said about the St. Velentine's day massacre. Mr. Nathen further acvised thet the above quoted remarks constituted his first statement, but that later on, efter talking with Ladd, he subsequently denied it.
