On February 28, 1964, a confidential source
who has furnished reliable information in the past, ke
furnished information that Stanley Levison contacted ya tee
Adele Cantor (an employee of the Southern Christian
leadership.conference (SCLC) Office) on that date. Levison
instructed Cantor _to type a note to Martin Luther King In
erder to advise him that “we” had planned.a schedule. of-.
railing ‘to have the mail reach the recipienta while the ._..
_filibuster (in the Senate in connection with civil rights
legislation). is in progress. He indicated in connection
with this mailing that—it-ts necessary to take into
considerztion the time which will be needed to handle
the second class mail and the time the people will need
in order to make a response. Levison also indicated
that if they could get King's _aporoval on this, they @ould
“move ahead on it.—"In their cisceussion, Cantor ‘and Levison—
~mrareated they would be interested in mailing 60,000 of.
these letters. Levison suggested that in the future, it
might be better to use the services of "an envelope house”
He pointed out that an "envelope house" would probably
require payment in advance, and that since "we" have
not set up a system with Atlanta (office of the SCLC),
there would be a delay in getting < check.
