A confidential source, who has furnished reliable
information in the past, advised on June 27, 1964, that
Stanley Levison conferred with Clarence Jones on that date.
Levison said he wanted to inform Jones that “our friends"
felt that the only way the Mississippi thing (case of the
missing civil rights workers) could be solved was through the
use cf a "stool pigeon", Continuing, Levison said, "we" all
Know that ‘a"’stool pigeon"will not go to the Federal Bureau of
Lnvestigation (FEI) with information, and that Mississippi
Police authorities do not want any information. Levieon
continued:
"Our plan is to offer ten thousand dollars to sone
person wel] known in Mississippi, even if this person is a
segregationist, to give to some"stool pigeon"for information
on the missing civil rights people."
