In 1961, Levison was a nominee for the Executive Board of the NY NAACP branch and listed as Co-Chairman of the Entertainment Committee. Roy Wilkins, head of the NAACP, stated that he was puzzled over the reason for Levison and Martin Luther King, Jr. meeting surrept ptiousty at airports, and he stated that Mrs. Wilkins had brought this up in speeches she'd made.
