Communist Influence in Racial 'atters
In the April 14, 1967 issue of "The Jew
York Times", on page 21, it was revorted
that Dr. Ralph Bunche issued a statement
on April 13, 1967, in which he referred
to a press release attributed to Martin
Luther Kins in which he disavowed any
intent to merce the civil rights and
peace movements. Bunche said he was
eratified to see Kine's disavowal of any
intent to merge the movements, and that
it took care of the issue to which he
had directed his statenent criticizing
him.
King expressed disappointment with Bunche because
he would not muster sufficient moral courage to come out
openly and make the statement concurring with his position.
He could not understand why he would not since, as King said,
he is not an employee of the United States.
Kine will see Bunche on Saturday, April 15, 1967,
following the speech at the United Nations. This fact
prompted Levison to supfest to King that he make certain
that newsmen vhotograph them vith each other. Levison
wanted this done for publicity reasens. He felt it was
very important that Bunche had changed his position and now
supports King.
The same source advised on April 14%, 196
Stanley Levison and Gloria Kantor, an acquaintance of his,
were in contact on that date. Their concern was over the
demonstration and march to be held on April 15, 1967, in
New York City. In reoly to an inquiry as to whether
Levison planned to march, he told Kantor he was planning
to do so.
