STEIN was experiencing difficulty in securing sponsors for MARTIN LUTHER KING's speeches but at present there are two in Baltimore, one in Philadelphia and two in New York which produce $150.00 per week from New York and $400.00 per week from Philadelphia and Baltimore. Source advised that LEVISON was also in touch with KING that date concerning the fact that ANN FARNSWORTH had donated $25,000.00 to the SCLC and the Ford Foundation had selected the SNCC to administer a $285,000.00 citizenship school project. (Disseminated by airtel and LHM dated 5/18/67, under caption “COMINFIL SCLC".) 5/31/67 ADELE KANTER, Director of the New York Office an © Da a ne seer 2 ner ane he SCLC, advised LEVISON that 22 of G2 recent contributors re! + to the SCLC asked that their names be removed from the SCLC list because of KING's Vietnam stand. KANTER also stated that the SCLC would work during the summer of 1960 in the areas of: 1.) Political Education 2.) Economic Development 3.) Urban Involvement, and 4.) Peace Activity. (Disseminated by airtel and LHM dated 6/5/67, captioned "CIRM", ) 6/8/67 LEVISON, KING, HARRY WACHTEL and ANDREW YOUNG, KING's Executive Assistant conferred that date concerning & statement which appeared in "The New York Times" support- ing Israel and signed by KING. KING was afraid that it 4 contradicted his policy of non-violence. They advised KING to make future statements general and to back the stand of the United Nations.
