CONF ARE NTIAL NY 100-111180 am C, b] #2 2/2k /68 On this date CLARENCE JONES and STANLEY LEVISON discussed the Poor People's Campaign (PPC) sponsored by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). JONES mentioned that he had some material from a minister named KIRKPATRICK called a Decloration of Principle which dealt with the PFC. He said KIRKPATRICK was distributing the material to churches. WEVISON told him to send the material to HARRY WACHTEL. LEVISON mentioned an 80,000 mailing of a fund appeal letter which he said was running ahead of last years. He said it was sent to a middle-class intellectual group. This information was forwarded to the Bureau and interested offices by airtel and LHM dated 2/27/68, and captioned, "WASHINGTON SPRING PROJECT - RACIAL MATTERS", 3/4/68 On this date, STANLEY LEVISN furnished DORA MC DONALD, MARTIN LUTHER KING's Secretary with a statement for KING's press conference scheduled for 3/4/68. In this statement LEVISON praised the findings of the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders, mentioned the PPC as a means of solving the problems uncovered by the commission, and said the highest patriotism demands an end to the Vietnam war. This information was furnished the Bureau and Atlanta by airtel and LHM dated 3/4/68, and captioned "WASHINGTON SPRING PROJECT - RACIAL MATTERS", 2/10/68 ee On this date LEVISON and HARRY WACHTEL discussed the PPC. LEVISON said that the National Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy and the Washington Jewish Community Council had endorsed the PPC. LEVISON aiso mentioned that the SCLC was planning on putting up "shanty towns" in Washington, .D.C (to house the PPC participants) and that plans were underway to bring a cabin which people live in , in Mississippi, to Washington and donate it to the Smithsonian Institut® as a i publicity stunt for the PPC. i On ‘ ~ PA constr vy a ae Te Tre ee OO oe oy eo es ara r om athM eee
