He was a principal advisor to the late Martin Luther King, Jr., and to King's Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). The fund-raising for the SCLC is under Levison's general supervision and his counsel continues to be sought in a number of areas in the civil rights field, including political considerations Because of this communist influence. in the SCLC, this surveillance is important to national security. During the past 90 days this telephone surveillance has continued to furnish valuable information concerning Levison's influence over the affairs of the SCLC, and other cts of the civil rights movement. Information from chis/ Wis” BER UASPS oh level dissemination including Levison's part in the preparation of a statement by King's widow following the conviction of his slayer, and his part in planning a boycott of 1970 automobiles by all blacks and unnamed white peace groups to "shake the establishment." This surveillance has also furnished information concerning financial manipulations by the SCLC and Levison in order to obtain funds from a foundation; Levison's assistance to Mrs. King in writing a book about King and Levison's ability to get information into the book about the Vietnam war and black nationalists which information the publisher wanted to keep out; and Levison's part in the strike of hospital workers in Columbia, South Carolina, which the SCLC joined. This information vas disseminated to the Department and interested Government agencies.
