On February 26, 1960, STANLEY DAVID LEVISON
advised Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation
(Fer) that, on several oeeasions probably during the late
Torties, he had met with ALFRED K, STERN. LEVISON stated
that at one time he (LEVISON) was active in an organization
known as “Businessmen For Roosevelt" (HFR) and that he
went to STERN's effice in Rockefeller Center in an attempt
to sell him malling lists which the BFR had aoquilred,
LEVISON stated that he thought STERN eould use these lists
in the "Wallace For President" eampaign that STERN was
promoting.
LEVISON stated that STERN did not buy the
lists as he sonsidered them worthless since they were
several years old,
| LEVISOK remarked that STERN impressed him as
a "rube™ who seemed obsessed with the fact that he was
e millionaire and that just being a millionaire made hin
an important person. LEVISON remarked that if STERN
was a millionaire he just barely made it and was the
*oheapest”® niliionaire he ever met.
LEVISON ecamented further by stating he did
not know any acquaintances or associates of STERN; that
he had no indication STERN might have been involvedin
@spionage or with Soviet officials. LEVISON remarked
that at STERN's office he had met MARTHA DODD STERN énd
ashe impressed him as being a “typical snob,"
LEVISON stated he had no information as to :
whether STERN had been associated with the Communist Party (CP) .
or for that matter if he ever eontributed to the CP. IZVISON .
remarked, "he'd be too cheap to sontribute.® LEVISON
eontinued, "STERN bragged about the eontributions he made
to various eharitable organizations, but from what he showed
me, his eontributions were nominal." LEVISON stated that .
STERN was always trying to impress people with the fact
i. that he was an important man. He was a great “name-dropper.*
