Within the past several days news stories nave indicated that surreptitious entries were conducted by the FBI within the past five years and that I have previously stated and testified before the Congress that surreptitious entries in domestic security investigations terminated in 1966. Obviously, such news stories imply directly or indirectly that I (1) knew otherwise, and/or (2) that my advisers in the FBI knew about these entries and failed to advise me of them. I would like to state at this time that when I yo i spoke initially at a July, 1975, press confzrence and stated "fh — that there were no entries in the domestic security area a after 1966, I knew of none. JI have certainly never aithorize2d any, and frankly, I was never told of any. I was speaking with the best knowledge that was furnished me at the time. .
