SURREPTITIOUS ENTRIES
DETAILS:
Legal Counsel to Mr. Adams memo of 7/15/76, captioned as
above, obtained authority to telephonically notify present and former
Agents who are subjects of Givil R Rights Division surreptitious entries
investigation they are released from their employment agreement so
they could discuss this matter with their counsel. This telephonic
notice was to be followed by letter from the Director. Legal Counsel
Division ha dling this matter and on 7/26/76, former
8 ernon, Connecticut, was contacted and
advised he was released from his employment agreement for the purpose
of discussing the matter of surreptitious entries with his attorney.
At_4:30 p.m., Legal Counsel Division was contacted by
attorney, f Hartford, Connecticut, who
advised he represented former Agen and that he had been
informed of our call notify! € was released from his
employment agreemen inted out that our telephonic notice
mentioned surreptitious es. He stated that he had been informed
by William Gardner of tie Civil Rights Division that Gardner intended

to go back as far as 1940 and intended to learn of any aad all possible
violations of citizen.’ civil rights by FBI Agents dvised he
was concerned regarding the inquiry and desired to know if the FBI was
aware of the extent. of this inquiry since we had only mentioned
surreptitious entries to his client Qjiifwas advised that we were
under the impression this inquiry was limited to surreptitious entites
and then only those of recent years. He was informed this would be
beought to the attention of the Director and he was thanked for bringing
this ta our attention
