These letters have been examined by Mr. Sherwood Morrill, -. = California De partment of Justice, Bureau of Criminal Identification (Questioned Documents Section «"Péatal Crime Laborato ) and Mr. John Shimods, Director of: ry, Wester Regional Office, San Bruno, Califormia. Prior to his retirement in 1973 Mr. Morrill examined and authenticated all of the "Zodiac" letters, including the now ——N disputed Riverside, California letters. On May 11, 1978 Mr. Shimo examined, for the first time, these Riverside, Califomia letters and formed the opinion that they were not authored by "Zodiac", a We are requesting this additional examination to settle the disputed authorship due to the seriousness of the case. - “Zodiac" is a mass murderer to whom we have attributed six knowm victims since 1966, _ and has subsequently reappeared by sending another letter to a * local newspaper.
