Wild. _ "Gray told The Dallas News that the court of inquiry was called to determine if Article 430 of the Penal Code of the State of Texas had been violated in the filing of the federal suit in September, 1955, by the NAACP. The federal case comes up in U. S. Judge William H. Atwell's court Monday morning. "'Thie hearing is in no way related to the federal suit,' explained Gray. ‘We questioned the witnesses to see if there was any violation of the barratry statue which makes it a penal offense to stir up or incite litigation. our main purpose has been to see if the parties to the suit had contacted a lawyer to represent them. ~ 18 -
