from wy home, located approximately one mile west ef the town of Merced.
on the night “of April 45 “1949, at approximately 2220, My attention was
diverted to a@ clicking noise of considerable intensity. I stopped on the
sidewalk about 20 feet from the front stepe and recognised the source of .
this clicking to be in the sky in an area about 40 degrees from the surface
of the earth in an easteriy direction. The sky cendition was 20000 thin
breken with 12 miles visibility and surface winds ware reported as north
nine M.P.H. at Castle Air Force weather station. My home ia approximately
seven wiles south of Castle Air Force Base and in an area soaewhat sheltered
fron surfacé winds ;and no appreciable surface wind waa apparent at the
time the aural observation was made. After about ten seconds of lock tnd
inte the area described previously as being the source of this sound,
object was observed blanking out stars in desoribing a flight path in 2
west or northwesterly direction. Only ene object was apparent, ite shape
ean be described as only # solid mass. Its sise can be estimited as four _
or five feet in diameter in keeping with an estimated altitude of con
siderably less than 1000 (ene theusand) feet. Color waa shown by the
