Description of object seen by Atomic Energy Comelssion Security Patrol Tr<
Edvard D, Rymer; who approached the object as close as Fifty (50) feet, at abo
1520 hours on 15 October 1950, ie substantially as follows: When first seen a'
an estimated altitule of twelve (12) to fifteen (15) thousand feet, the object
appeared to be an afroraft starting to * te". The "Streamer" left behinl
estimated to be approxrimtely one-fourth (4) of a mile long. The object thea ©
started a controlled descent, almost vertical, at a slower speed than ai atror:
would dive, ani the “tail” followed the object. "It" then appoared to take th
shape of a large bullet with a streamer, or ribbon, as tuick as the bullet, tr
ing in the path of the object but connected to it, The object then levelled eo
parallel to the horizon, decreased ita speed, ani passed within seventy (70) y:
of Rymer ani anotuer observer waom Rymer bad stopped (John Momymaker). Ryser
reported via telephone that this object was a “falling object”, As the object
decreased its speed to lesa than a mans norm) walk, Rymer attempted to approx
the object, but ven he got within fifty (50) feet of it, the object moved tow
the Southeast at about six fect altitute above the terrain; made almost a
mechanical maneuver to go over @ nine (9) foot cyclone ohain link fence; then
another similar maneuver to pass over a willow tree ani a telephone line; and
finally gained altitudes and speed ani went over a hill about one mile distance.
When Rymer was within fifty (50) feet of the object it appesred te be a t
(2) by five (5) card (similar to the ones issued to vehicles entering the “Cont
Zone” at Oak Ridge) with a twenty (20) foot ribbon tail, the first two feet of
waich were easily visible ani the last eighteen (15) feet of which was almost
transparent and divided into several sections. The sections of the tail weald
Puleste a dim "glow" altermately. Through the entire length of the tail, was s
black line which might be described as a “wire". The entire color was blutak-;
siuilar to the color of the top of a “wood cooking range". The “body” of the «
was gently moving up and down, ani the tail waved in the breeze like a ribbon ¢
& worm ani followed the path of the “body” of the chject. There was no breeze
at the time! (Knoxville Airport reports a high breeze of eight (8) miles per
hour). Further, from fifty (50) feet away, the object looked no bigger then 11
éid from two hunired and ten (210) feet away, ani when it disappeared over the
kill, one (1) mile avay, it still looked the same size that it had appeared at
only fifty (50) feet, but the "body" was then "bladder" or “pear-shaped”,
When questioned furthor, Rymoer stated that the object Bad to change size
fron the time they first observed it until it came near the ground; and it had
get larger as it went over the hill or they would not have been able to see it
euch distances,
The object appeared two more times within the next ten (10) minctes and
Rymer was able to get tvo other observers to verify that they eould see the sam
