Previous events concerning ob jects seen over Oak Ridge, but some of the “%
gwrds had reported peculiar sounds during the evening of 16 October 1950.
Independent reports from different guaris were received by the Security
Section, NEPA, Oak Ridge. These reports were submitted by Guards 8. B. Brown; —
H. C. Herron; and Goorge BR. Davis, They all stated substantially the same .
and described bearing an intermittant noise resembling the blast of a det
Fighter Aircraft. Each noise lested for about three ani one kalf (35) seconds
ani would reow frequently between 1956 hours and 2004 hours on 16 October
1950, Each noise would sound like a jet plane whioh had increased ite thrust
tremeniously, The sounds seemed to leave the vicinity mking an ascent —
almost vertical. Nome of the guards could see an object in the sky. :
On 17 October 1950, Major L. E. Romiger, Sr, Instructor, ORC Group,
Oak Ridge, Tennessee, returned fros Nashville, Temnesese, and visited an
official of the Security Division, Atomic Energy Comission, Oak Ridge,
Tennessee. Major Ronniger was amused when informed of the fantastico sights
that same of the persons at Oak Ridge had seen but then he recalled an
incident vhich he thought was not commected to the “Objects Sighted over . ;
Oak Ridge.” After having been away from Oek Ridge during Monday ani Tuesday, -
the 16th and 17th of October 1950, and without knowledge of the cocurrences =~
which had taken place except for the item about which he was being told
(which had to do with viewal sightings of the object), Major Romiger stated
that he had heard a noise at about 1500 hours on 15 October 1950 which he
described exactly as the guards who heard the noise on the night of 16
