'¢) January 15, 1971 ~ To speak for the American Program Bureau at Loyola University in Quebec, Province of Quebec, Canada. AUSA JAMES BREEN further advised that on January 5, 1971 the USCA had issued an order authorizing HOFFMAN's travel to Canada as requested. The "New York Post", & New York City daily newspaper in its January 13, 1971 issue on page 4 contained an article entitled "Abbie & His Huskies Charging on Canada", which stated in part as follows: ' "Not too many people are declared unwelcome in Canada, but then not too many people are like Yippe leader Abbie Hoffman. ry F “So sometime today in Buffalo, Hoffman will try to force asian his way past border guards, having been denied entry into Canada under a rarely invoked section of the immigration law that bars persons convicted of crimes ‘involving moral turpitude.' "Hoffman, who promises to have a band of Yippies on hand for support, plans to cross the appropriately named Peace Bridge, connecting Buffalo with Fort Erie, Ont., and ‘let them tell me to my face that Ican't come in.' * "after all, he says, ‘there are two sides to every bridge \ , "tfhe only time you're welcome in Canada is if you're an American imperialist bent on drinking Canade dry,' he went . on. 'They welcome you and your money.’ € "More is involved, though, than Hoffman's spending habits, said Canadian government officials, who banned the Chicago 7 trial defendant while having greeted numerous _ other radicals and hundredsof American draft resisters. 4 ‘N - 18 -
