CONFIRENTIAL ¥, RE: YOUTH INTERNATIONAL FARTY 7 Dade Boulevard and Washington Avenue in Miami Beach, Flowers were strewn into a canal at that location and a small casket floated on the water as symbolic reference to the death of NGUYEN THAI BINH, a Vietnamese killed during a hijack attempt during the previous week, The group departed this location at about 2:30 PM and marched one block to the Miami Beach Convention Center where they again gathered and passed out a pamphlet criticizing the killing of THAI and in general United States involvement in Vietnam. Members of the Youth International Party along with some other groups, participated _ in this matter. - July 4, 1972 Observed by Special Agents of the FBI On July 9, 1972, from about 2:30 PM, a smoke-in was held at Flamingo Park which was promoted by the ZIP — faction of the YIP and supported by YIP. There were about ar 20 or 300 in the smoke-in and they marched from the park to : ot the Convention Hall. There was smoking on the way and by —{ the time the marchers reached the Convention Hall, there > were about 800 or 900 people, Many of them joined the line . of march as it proceeded, After being there for a short —— time they marched back towards Flamingo Park, There was no violence, no arrests, and it was a peaceful affair. The amoke-in is actually more or less a continuous type of thing going on at Flamingo Park. There is a break-up in the leadership of the ZIP faction and it appears there is a great deal of dissension in having TOM PORCADE and PATRICK SMALL as the leaders of the ZIP faction, UY ~~ 670
