There was no violence and there were no arrests in connection with this demonstration. | | , Ww On July 11, 1972, the Zippies, accompanied by some Yippies, had a march and demonstration known as "Know Your Candidate Parade", It started at Flamingo Park and proceeded to the Convention Center and at the Convention Hall area, they had slogans such as “Laugh-In for Muskie", "Yawn-In for Mills", "Toke-In for Chisholm", “Egg-In for Humpty Dumpty”. Also they talked about "Putting Teddy in the Driver's Seat", and talked about a moat on the north side of the convention complex as the "Mary Jo Kopechne Causeway”. The demonstration ended with a Wallace Wheelchair Race. There was a substantial crowd and numerous demonstrators from other factions jined in. There was no trouble or violence. On July 11, 1972, the Zippies participated,along with several other groups, in a demonstration at the Doral Hotel, Miami Beach, and it started around 1:30 P.M., with around 100 people. Later in the afternoon and evening, it swelled to about 500. The purpose of this demonstration was (1) for MC GOVERN to speak to them about his statement that he was going to leave a residual corps of troops in Vietnan, (2) they wanted MC GOVERN to sign and endorse the SDS anti- racism bill, and (3) they wanted to make their feelings known about an incident on July 9, 1972, when a black woman was struck by an automobile driven by E. C. RAVENHOLT, a HUMPHREY delegate and administrative aide to Senator INOUYE of Hawaii. Late in the afternoon, about 20 Gay Activists entered the lobby and were cheering “Justice for Gays". MC GOVERN eventually appeared and talked tothem later in the evening, and the Zippie spokesman was DANA BEAL, who grabbed a microphone and asked MC GOVERN about heroin.
