On April 12, 1970, Agents of the Federal Bureau of
Investigation observed, at approximatel y 1:00 PM, a march con-
sisting of épproximately 200 persons proceed from Elizabeth
Beldwin Park at Elgin and Crevwford Streets in the direction
o* Hernann Park in Houston, Texas. The narchers carried various
sizns and banners indicating their opposition to the Vietnan
Wer. Various chants end singing wes engaged in by the marchers
while en route to Fermann Park.
At approximately 2:00 PM, the marchers and others
gathered near the Miller Amphitheater in Herménn Park and
conducted a rally which included speeches by several individuels,
including Mexican-Americars and Negroes and the main spescker,
Abbie Hoffman, who was publicly identified es one of the "Chicago
“pa whe had recently been convicted of. conspiracy in connection
“with riots during the Democratic convention in Cnicago.
Hoffman's speech, as well as the others' speeches,
were not enthusiasticly received by the crowd of approximately
2,500 persons who were in attendance at the rally. The relly
wes entirely peaceful and no acts of violence were observed.
Tn several instances, heckling was noted from the outskirts
the crowd. The rally at Hermann Park closed with the
ennouncerent that an additional rally and speech by Hoffman
would be conducted at the Continental Showcase, a night club
located neer Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, at
8:00 PM, April 12, 1970.
