AMERICAN LEAGUE FOR PEACE AND DEMOCRACY
The Guide to subversive Organizations and Publica-
tions, revised and published December 1, 1961, to supersede
Guide published on January 2, 1957, prepared and released by
the Committee on Un-American Activities, U. S. House of
Representatives, Washington, D.C., states as follows:
"1. Cited as subversive and Communist.

Loyalty Review Board, released June 1, 1948,
and September 21, 1948.)
"2. Established in the United States in 1937 as
successor to the American League Against War
and Fascism ‘in an effort to create public
sentiment on behalf of a foreign policy adapted
to the interests of the Soviet Union, * * * The
American League for Peace and Democracy * * * was
designed to conceal Communist control, in accordance
with the new tactics of the Communist Inter-
national.'

"3. #‘'The largest of the Communist ‘front' movements in
the United States is the American League for
Peace and Democracy, formerly known as the
American League Against War and Fascism, and,
at the time of its inception, as the United States
Congress Against War. * * * The league contends
publicly that it is not a Communist-front movement,
yet at the very beginning Communists dominated it.
Earl Browder was its vice president.’ ‘An examina-
tion of the program of the American League will
show that the organization was nothing more nor
less than a bold advocate of treason.’ It was
formed at an ‘American Congress for Peace and
Democracy.'
