MILLER described the applicant as "one of the finest human beings I have known" and an able, pragmatic person. He stated that a measure of the applicant's ability is apparent in the applicant's success in winning election to public office without any support from regular party organizations. He ad~ vised the applicant is not only the acknowledged leader of independent politicians in the Chicago area but is also effective, MILLER has known the applicant since the early 1950's and recalled that the applicant was a law clerk for United States Supreme Court Justice SHERMAN MINTON immediately after the applicant's graduation from law school. MILLER advised that the captioned firm conducts litigation in corporate, financial, and real estate matters, The applicant, as a partner in the firm, handled trials and appeals in both state and Federal courts, and demon- strated a “very high order” of legal ability.
