Ms. Fossey, who was originally from. Louisville, was a well known scientist ,.who had devoted her life to the study of anes, and had written several articles and papers regarding her studies. On Oct 30,_ 1984. while visiting in this city, purchased a handgun ior Fossey to take. back to Africa. The gun which was purchased was an Astra Constable. blue steel .380 cal semi-automactic pistol. This was to replace. a Walther .380 which was stolen from'Ms. Fossey while in Africa,. and this gun had also been purchased in Louisville. Ms. Fossey made it known that she alwavs carried this weapon for personal protection while living An) Africa. The serial number on the. Astra Constable was lioeey?. The weapon was purchased from the. Oakwood Ltd. in St. Matthews.. Very few details of Ms. Fossey's murder were given in the newspapers, and I felt that this information mav be of some heln to the authorities investigating this homicide. They may not be aware that the victim Owned this firearm, and it may have been stolen by the assailent.. Hopefully you can forward this information on to the proper authorities.
