BACKGROUND ON HAYDEN:
Hayden'g name is included on the Security-Index.
He is a white male, born 12/ll/39 at Detroit, Michigan. .He
received a A.B. degree from the University of Michigan in.
1961.
He was one of the founders of the Students for a
Democratic Society and was a former national president of
'this organization which is self-described as "an association
of young .people .on the left which seeks to put forth a radical
democratic program." He has been since l964 a leader of the
"Newark Community Union Project," a community action program
sponsored by the Students for a Democratic Society<in Newark,
New Jersey. He has been active in civil rights movements both
in Mississippi and Newark. He worked with the.Student' Nonviolent
Coordinating Committee and has been involved in seyerald
to Moscow, Peking and entered North Vietnam by way of'Cambodia..
In a press conference on his return, he pointed out that he had
a 90-minute talk with Premier.Pham Van Dong of North vietnany
In Septemberl, 1967, he published a book'on the Newark riots.of
