Details:
On August 24, 2000, Legal Attache Moscow received a
Federation, seeking assistance in the determination of the
provenance of a painting by the artist KONSTANTIN MAkOvsKy.
According to the Fsb, an unrelated criminal.
investigation led to the discovery of a painting by MAkoysKY
which was in the possession of a close associate of the,
investigation's primary subject. The oil-on-canvas painting
depicts a woman standing against the background of an/open door,
and bears a label on its reverse stating "M.H./De Yoyng Memorial
Museum. San Francisco. Konstantin Makovsky, Russian,/1839-1915."
To date, the Fsb has been unable to develbp any

Russian Federation. Our assistance has been requested in order to
determine whether the painting ever belonged to the museum, and
if so, if the museum sold or presented the painting to someone,
or if it was stolen.
