BACKGROUND: You will recall by melorandun of :arch 28, l950 the Director rh5 furnished an analysis of the Eureau's files on the 8l cases furnished to the Tydings Committeq by Senator l.cCarthy. It was pointed out that in ten of the cases the Bureau had cor ducted no investig;ation but that the individuals involved were no longer employed by the State Jepartment and thcre was no indication in D:rcau files that they were em- ployed elsewhere in the Covernnent. On jarch 29, l950 wF0 was telephonically in- individual.s are not employed in the Federal Governgent at the present tiie. Supervisor of the l.F0 telephonically advised me on I'erch 30, l950 that, according to the records of the Civil Service Comnission, none of these ten individuals are presently employed in the Executive Branch of the Governnent.
