FD-302 {REV. 3-17-69] FeDeral bureau Of investigatiOn Date 0ctober 3 1969 Lieutenant THOlAs GANNon, Port Authority Police, Neyark Airport, Newark, New Jersey, advised that his department had received information at approximately 10:30 a.m. from United Airlines, Newark, New Jersey, that a passenger who b6 b7C 1l:00 a.m. en route to Chicago had made a statement to the United Airlines ticket agent, that his.bag contained nitroglycerine.. GANNoN advised that he responded and found THovAS ALAN GITLIN in line waiting to board Flight l49 departing Newark at ll:00 a.m. to Chicago. Lieutenant GANNoN aavised GITLIN that he would have to accompany him to the Port Authority Police Headquarters. Lieutentnt GANNoN was furnished. with two full shopping bags which were tied together and which had been checked by GiTlIN with United Airlines. Lieutenant GiTLIN stated that when he approached GITLIN, GITLIN apoligized to him for making the renark. He stated there was. no nitroglycerine in his bag and oifered. to allow Lieutenant GIfLIN to search his bags. GITLIN further made a comment to the effect that he was pleased that authorities would pursue matters of this nature where a threat was made.. Liautenant GANNON advised that GITLIN was accompanied by and that all three cooperated with. b6 him and accompanied him to the Port Authority Police Headquarters. b7C at Newark Airport.. Lieutenant GITLIN searched the two shopping bags which GifLIn had checked and found that, they contained books and several items of new and used clothing.. No nitroglycerine was located.
