EDWARD GEARY LANSDALE, also knOWn as Major
General (retired) E. G. LANsDALE, 20o8 Lorraine Avenue,
McLean, Virginia. was interviewed at that address by
Special Agents

who identified themselves as such..

General LANSDALE was advised that he was being

interviewed in order to determine the nature of his

association with TRUONG DINH HUNG, recently arrested on
b7E
charges of espionage.
General LANSDALE stated that he had known
TRUONG's father, TRUONG DINH DZU, while serving as a
Minister at the U.s. Embassy in Saigon. He said he had
had several conversations with Dzu prior to Dzu's running
for President of South Vietnam and subsequent imprisonment.
LANSDALE added that apparently he was one of the few
Americans who would have anything to do with Dzu..
According to General LANSDALE, his first
contact with TRUONG was in 1969, when TRUONG visited him
at his home, then near Mt. Vernon, Virginia. LANsDALE
stated that, at the time, TRuoNG was living in New York
City, and had come to visit LANSDALE in order to try to
secure LANSDALE's assistance in getting TRUONG's father
out ol prison in South Vietnam, which assistance LANsDALE
was unable to provide.
General LANSDALE advised that since the one
1969 meeting, he had not seen Truong in person, but that
he thought there might have been a telephone call, and
Christmas cards were exchanged. As to how Truong had.
known about him, LANSDALE could only presume that TRUONG's
father had possibly written to TRuoNG and advised him to
contaet LANSDALE.
.General. LANSDALE was unable to provide any
further information concerning tRuONG or TRuoNG's activities..
He stated he had no knowledge of any contact by TRuoNG
with the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam
(SRv). LANSDALE did add parentheticalIy that he had
information while serving in Saigon, that TruoNg's father,
