The bullet which was ramoved from her body was
it was determined.that' it was only a portion of*? rfie
slug from shotgun and from the appearance of the slug,
it was evidant that it had ricocheted from another object
into her body.
The gunfire was alle mdly caused by a gang of
white youths from th. North Newberry Street area who had a
confrontation with a gang of Negro you#hs on July l7, lsts..
At this point in the investigation, he has not
intervigwed any.of the other parsons who ware in the
vehicle but has concentrated on attempting to learn the
firing on th. stalled vehidle.
"This investigation ha.
deyeloped the fact that on July 20, l989, an automobile
containing Negroes had drivsn down North Newbarry Srreet
and as it reached the area of the Western Maryland Rail-
roud traoks, the trunk of tha vehiele had auddenly opened
and goms Negroes in the trunk had sprayed the area with
gunfire as the vehiale sped off. He understands that
some white persons were lnjured by this gunfire; however
he doas not knox their identities.

Jumpy and when another yehiele ocoupied by Negroes tarned
around at the traaks and - Negro woaan got out of the
vehicle, the gang in the area believed they would be shot
at fron the tmunk of this vehiele. He bases this part on
the fact that the majority of the shots hitting the
vehicle hit it in the right rear, partlcularly in the
area of the trunk.
His investigation has deteruined that there
were no oity or stats pollauman in the immedlate area
where the vehicle was shot at and the closest offieers
were at the interseation of North Newberry and West Phila-
delphia Streets. Also, all Psp on riot duty in York, Pa.,
at the time were issued and wearing arash-typ. halmets,
light blue in aolor, Most of th. policemen Srter the Firat
day or two of the disturbance, wore bullet proof vests
as a proteation against the sniper fire which they were
constantly runniny into.
