(u) It is to be noted that during October, November, and December of. 19h4, the subject allegedly spent one day in each of twenty five schools giving speeches and reading poetry to the various classes.(U. mis article further stated that in most schools his visit cli-axed. or was integrated with various projects of study -- poetry, discussions of race relations and tbe extension of democracy, local problens such as housing, the history of the Reconstruction, ot cetera. It is also noted that his tour began in mid-October, with a week spent in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the cxpress invitation of this Board of Education, which allegedly was atte-pting to institate a new prograa of bettering inter- cultural and interracial understanding. It is to be noted further that several New Jersey schools were included ip the tour subsequent to that by. tbe subject, at which he gave speeches.(U). The artiele conclndes stating that it was the hope of tbe Common Council to send the subject to nany schools during the year of l945, and on a locture tour through the Middle West and the South.(u. An article agpearing in tbe "Daily Worker" issue of Jamuary 29,. 1945, pago ll, colus 2, reflected that the subjoct was one of the judges for the $l5o cultural sward which was sponsored by the Lincoln Steffens Lodge Soo of the Iwo, as & part of the celebration of Negro History Week, February ll through the l8th, l945. Tis prise was to be presented to a young Negro whose work was considered to be an outstanding contribution to American culture, and the presentation was to be made at the Lodge' anmal dance on February 3, l9h5, at Yanbattan Center, How Iork City./U In the Pittsburgh Courier dated May 1, l9h3, an article was written Onttled-UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH CROUP HEARS LANGSTON HUGHES. Tis articls stated that the subject spoke before a class of the Scbool of Applied Social Science in the Group Work studio on Wednesday at the Cathedral of Learning at the University of Pittsburgh, where he gave a sociological colanation of his rarious works to remove the stigea of the. color touch. During this speech, he read several of his poems and following the speech, the subject was tbe honored guest at a dinner of tbe Loendi Clnb, R. MAurice,moss, cxecutive secretary of the Urban Leagus sponsoringd. the poet's appearance in Pittsburgh. (y) r . i
