NATIONAL DEF Wo hear a great deal about "Nationsl Defense" and spond rast sums in support of a variety of efforts, aots.vities and organizations whioh, wo are told, are ab- tolutoly neoessary to our nationsl defense. In spite of all the talk, the vast surs, the efforts, aotivities and organizations and, I might add, the contributions of "modern science" (whioh, ia thc eyes of those who revised The Bible to bring it up..to-date, hss already surpasred Ths Word of God Imowledge-wise) the crisis and Its related crises become progressively worse.. It would seem quite obvious that comewhore aleng the line we made a serious mistake.. Whether the mistake was inten- tional or not and who was responsible makes little difference now. Lot us, instead. ascertain the nature of the mistake and revise our plans to fit tho task ahoad of us. After considerable research in regard to the situation confronting us I find the following quotation from The Bible (King James Version, which was translated without the advantiges of "modern science") pertinent: qnq sfnos oy? ilpt o otqe you euu qnq *Apoq oy? llnt qonyn woug aou aoj puvy rather fear him which is.able to destroy both soul and body in holl." If we apply this thought provohing admonition to our republie.we read: Fear not those.forces which.would conquor or destroy the body of our republio (its physioal sssets) but. cannot destroy or conquer the youl of our republio (that for whioh it etands). Instead fear, and thererore defend it against, those foroes whioh can soul departs, the body is dead and unable to defend itseif. While "modern scientists' may not agree, the old-fashioned soientist who realizes that he is not omniscient will. Defense" is that we fear the dostruotion of the "body" of our republie and give no thought to.the defense of its "soul." As a oonseguence outwardly the "body" seems our republio, its heart and spirit. I submit fusther that umless we take steps to defend the "soul" the efforts'to defend the"body" are futile. of its "soul" will fall like a ripe fruit into the hands of those forces which oan "destroy both soul and body in hell. If we are sincere in our desire to defend our republio it would seem apparent that wo must first of all umderstand what it is that wo should be defending, but are not. :s The American Republie is not simply a Considerable' area of land, nor is it a vast acoummulation of people, buildings'or physical resouroes. The American Ropublio has a "soul" - that for whioh it stands. Unless we understand this "soul" we cannot intelligently draw up tho plans for its defense. Pirst of ali, our republic stands for a firm faith in the EXISTENCE of God, a +1 Supreme Authority, Conscienoe, Mind. Second, our republio stands for a firm faith in God's ability to provide for provide for the general welfare. Third, our republic stands for a firm faith in the SUPReME rightnoss and. justice of. God's Law and our willingness to obey It. .Fourth, our republie stands for a firm faith in The Word of God as Truth in the absolute, infinite and eternal sense. ... In a few words, our republio stands for and was oreoted as a monument to God. Thus whon we ondoavor to dofend that for whioh it stands, we show by our fruits that wo would serve Him, that wo haye faith in His existence, ability, Law, and Word. ..imowledge of those forees which already threaten, or would threaten, our republic.
