b6 b7C On January 2t, I977, Major was recontacted and requested to furnish responses to specific questions regarding the classitied materinl whlch allogedly appenred in Anderson's colunn. These questions are. normally askod by the Department of Justice (IoJ) to assiat then in naking a determinatlon os to any necessary action to be taken in natters such as this. On Febpay 3. 1977, the facts of this case, alorg with Major responses to the above- mentioned questions, were submitted to the DoJ, Criminal Division. The Assistant Attorney Ceneral (AAG), Criminal Division, by Letter dated March 3, 1977, imstructed that the FBl obtain Prom GAo, a copy of the report which. Lr. Andergon was alludlng to, and which Major had identifiod as "Gao Staxt Seuay, Roiand and Chaparral Missile and Antiaircraft Gun Prograog," dated March 17, 1976, classified "Couedesttat."" In addition to the copy of this report, tho AAo requcsted iniormation regardlng the numtor of copies printed and the extent of Its dicsemination. The AAG also instructod that the axmy be requested to furnish more definitive rosponsee regardlng the clasnified information allegedly disclosed than that previously furnished. On March 29, l977, the Director cr Socurity,. GAO, was contacted by a Special Agent ot the FBI, Washington Fieid Osfice, at which time a request was made for a copy oi the above-mentioned Go renort, The Director of Soourity requested thnt cither the noJ or Fel Headquaxters addrass a fornal written requost for this report and any other intornntion desired. This written request was sent to GA0 on April 20, 1977, by FBl Hioadquarters. On Apr11 21, 1977, Major was reconteeted b6 at which time he advised that ntter #urther consideration, b7C the arny decided that they do not deslro to purcue this natter any further, and therefore, do not intend to furnish more delinitive resnonses regarding the classified infor- mation appearing in Hr.
