W YORK RADICAL FEMINISTS New York Radical Feminists recognizes the oppression of women as a fundamental political oppression wherein women are categorized es an inferior class based upon their sex. It is the aim of radical feminism to organize politically to destroy this sex class system. W& believe that the purpose of male chauvinism is primarily to obtain- psychological ego satisfaction, and that only secondarily does tis manifest itself in economic relationships. We do not believe that capitalism, or any other economic system, 1s the cause of female oppression, nor do we believe that female oppression wil!. disappear as a result of purely economic revolution. The political. oppression of women has its own class dynamic, namely, the politics of the ego.. As women we are living in a male power structure, and our roles become necessarily a function of men. The services we supply are services to the male ego. We must begin to destroy the notion that we are only servants to the male ego; we must construct alternate selves that are independent and self assertive. It remains for us as women to develop a new dialectic of sex class -- an analysis of the way in which sexual identity and institutions reinforce one. another. Some NyRF Activities: I. Organizing consciousness-raising groups - All women are welcome to join small groups which meet regularly to increase our aware- ness of the daily oppression all women experience. From this awareness women develop a feminist political philosophy and do actions with their group or with members of other NyrF groups. 2. Developing a legislative program which covers all feminist Issues. 3. Working further on exploring and writing about the various aspects of rape in workshops which came out of the Rape Conference held in April.. 4.
