cv 183-406 Mr. BiLLAk stated conOnIco had been confined to the Mahoning County Residential Treatment Center, a "Halfway. House*, since his release from prlson in September of l978. Prior to January 2, 1979, he was required to report to the treatment center by 10:oo p.m. each night and would be released. on Friday evenings between 5:00 and 6:00.p.m. until Sunday evening at 10:00 p.m. Starting January 2, 1979, he was only reguired to be in the treatment center by l0:00 p.m. b6 on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday nights. He had formerly b7C shared a roon at the treatment center with with whom he had served time at the Allenwood Pr son. Since that tine cononico has been rooming alone at the Halfway House". furnished an address of. telephone nunber and his employment as the Post Office Box. BILLAK stated the rumors at the "Halfway House* is that cononico was killed over a gambling debt but no names have been mentioned. He stated some of the inmates at this halfway house have indicated that conoNico owed between $7,000.00 and $13,500.00 as a result of gambling losses over the recent football playoffs. On January 19, 1979, Detective ROBERr KANE, of the Youngstown Police Department advised he has been assigned. the investigation into the shooting death of JAMes MIcHAEL CONONIco. He said he has determined conONIco left his residence in Warren, Ohio, January 1l, 1979, at approximately 8:30 p.m., and stopped at the J and s Food Market in Youngstown, located at wiliis and Market Street, where he purchased a newspaper and a box of cracker jacks. He said cononico then pulled into the parking lot of the Mahoning County Residential Treatment Center where he Is staying and was b6 shot as he got out of his yehicle.
