ALLEGATIONS OF PETROV. SOVIET DEFECTQR IN AUSTRALIA. Vladimir Petrov stated in an article in the "United States. News and World Report" issue of September 23, 1955, that he learned through his colleague, one Kislytsin, Second Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Australia that Burgess and liaclean were long-term fhe dof yeom on pangnenan hrauanuadang uaag yenn poy oym dauann! (Soviet intelligence duriny their student days at Cambridge University. jAccording to Kislytsin who was in London from 1945 to 1948, Burgess Embassy where they were photographed and returned to him. The flight of Burgess and Miaclean was planned from Mioscow because they hd discovered they were under investigation. When they made this discovery Burgess and Maclean reported to their Soviet superiors in much alarm. Kislytsin assisted in planning their escape and met. them upon their arriuul in Moscow. He was responsible for their welfare and visited them often in a comfortable home outside of fLoscow. Kislytsin advised Petrov they werc acting as aduisors to Ithe F'oreign Ojfice in Anglo-American ajfairs. Kislytsin was also aware of the plan to get srs. kaclean to Woscow and when he read of her escape in the newspaper in Australia ne recognized some of the details. The first publication oj Petrov's story appeared in the London papers on 'September 18, 1955, and resulted in extensive criticism of British officials. These attacks by the press resulted. in the British Government promising to issue a white Paper on Iriday, September 23, 1955.
