HURD was advised that the possibility b7C existed that certain signatures contained on two petitions which had been entered into evidence at the Wounded Knee leadership triaI of DENNIS JAMES BANKS and RUSSELL CHARLES MEANS may be identical with the handwriting on the extortion note and envelope sent to Attorney WILLIAM KUNSTLER. Mr. HURD was requested to contact Federal District Judge FRED J. NICHOL and request that the original of two petitions entitled, "Resolution of Citizens of the District of South Dakota, dated March 3, 1973, and March 4, 1973, be released from appropriate handwriting examinations.. lr. HurD advised that in his conversations with. Judge NICHOL, Judge NICHOL had stated that he had no objection to releasing the petitions from evidence; however, the. permission."
