‘Six plenicking Denver teen-agers reported. Thursday
night they were chased for an hour by unidentified fying
‘objects in Daniels Park south of Denver in Douglas County.
The high school students—three boys, three gire—told
Police Chief John C. Maclvor of Littleton they witnessed un-
explained, apparently “hovering” red, blue and white lights
accompanied by a series of pulsating buzzing sounds which
‘began about 9:50 p.m.
‘The, teenagers, all 17, who described what they saw
hesitantly, were described by Maclvor as being “sincere,
‘old sober anda tle shaken by what they saw.”
jie Ben appeared at Mactvor's alice sry before

"I was real skeptical at frst,” Maclvor said. “But each

loking—t tell them where they were
“T don't know what they saw,” he sald, “bat I'm con-
‘vinced they saw something”
‘Alan Scrivner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Scrivner of
1040 Jackson St,'a Junior at East High School, gave the
‘lowing account
‘Scrivner and five friends drove to Daniels Park, 1012
Imiles southeast of Litton, about 6:30 p.m. They parked the
‘car and walked about a city block down a small incline and
{up again toa stone shelter bul in the side ofa hl
‘The group was siting around a fire they'd built inside
when they heard “what sounded like a man walking on top
ofthe shelter.” The root ean easily be reached on foot from
the slanting hillside.
‘Scrivner and Don Otis, an East High junior, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Elmo Otis, 189 Fairfax St, stood on top of the shelter
and shined a haslight ino the surrounding ares. They
aw nothing.
‘The twoleaving the others behind in the shelter—made
their way through the underbrush ack to the Toad. “I
imag someane was mesing arcand my ear,” Serimer
“Just as we got to the car,” he said, “both of us heard
areal weird buzzing nose. It seamed to be all around us.”
‘As they reached the car, the youths saw “two red lights
shout. foot each in dlametet—about two feet olf the
(ground and parallel teach other.” There was a white light
inthe center of the res,
The lights, about 20 feet apart, appeared to be in a fleld
on the far side of the road “about 25 yards” from the
car. The two, thinking “it might be two. parked cars of
something,” efouched inthe ditch and waited.
‘About three minutes later, they again approached the
car, Tey saw and beard ating, They’ returned to the
‘The four in the shelter said that, while the two had
been gone, they'd heard the same “footsteplike™ sound on
the root again. Two of the girls said they'd also seen a “tall
man, who might've been wearing a raincoat," dart through
the light showing through the window into the area. They
also sai they beard his footsteps.
‘The group decided to leave
As they were walking back to the car, Otis turned and
saw “a real bright flash behind the hill over the shelter
‘and itt up the whole area.”
Buzzing ‘All Around’
‘The ominous buzzing began again. No direction, “just
all around — never heard anything iike it in my Ie,”
Scrivner sid. Shorly afterward as the group neared the
car, they all agreed they saw the same thing:
‘Two blue lights hovering low in the sky, about three:
quarters of a mile away. The lighis were stationary and
‘rent from bright to dim. A third — white — light appeared
to rise up and down between the Blues hd" up the
‘No outline ~other than the lights—was visible.
‘They perched atop the car's hood and watched the bine
and white lights “off and on” for about a half hour. The
lights appeared in back of the shelter — in the opposite d
rection from the first lights sen inthe field
‘Twenty minutes after the blues appeared, another set—
these, blues with a bright red inthe center — appeared “ff
to the left of the others and about block away.” These
hovered near the ground. The buzzing continued,
"The night was overcast with no stars visible but “real
clear beneath the clouds where the lights were.” As the third
‘set of lights hovered, the youths agreed they could see a dark
‘ulline between the lights.
“Tt looked dike a black fodtball—the blue lighis on each
fend — with an orange on top, Uke a bubble. The red light
‘was at the botiom. It didn't move up and own, but did cast
beam of light at the ground,” Server sald
“Car Didn't Work Right’
‘The youngsters piled ip the car — a 1954 Ford — and
started ot ofthe park.
“You'l all think we're nots,” Serivner said later, “but
ry car didn't work right. I could get it upto about 30 (miles
fn hour) then it would cut out like someone turned. the
Jgniion off Then it would startup again.”
Scrivner also, complained that the fadio was “playing
nothing but sia” while they left the immediate area of he
helen
‘As they drove off, two of the girls and Otis saw what
appeared io be a “large, oval circle of light — it covered
the whole road — following the ea."
Mary Zolar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Jack A. Zolar,
95 Fairfax St, a senior at East, was in the back seat with
to thers.
Tt was huge and glowing,” she sald, “and came right
up to the back of the ear, then went out. It lasted about
three seconds.”
